Research Assistant, Ecuador

May joined Pacific Whale Foundation in 2024. Growing up in Puerto López, a small fishing town surrounded by a protected area, May developed a deep passion for nature and its intricacies. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in 2020, majoring in Biology from Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja. As Research Assistant in Ecuador, May is responsible for digitizing and quality-controlling a photo-ID catalog of humpback whales, managing a strandings database, and assisting with data collection in the field. May’s previous experience includes working in rehabilitation of injured marine wildlife, and leading educational projects centered on marine life and waste reduction in her community.
