Ocean Camp (Grades 2-5)

What is Ocean Camp?

This unique offering encourages campers to learn about the ocean and Maui’s natural environment while developing useful skills and making new friends. Each session centers around a specific ocean-related theme and includes hands-on science lessons, team-building games, expressive crafts and daily field trips with local partners, including weekly 3-hour private snorkel trips on PacWhale Eco-Adventures vessels. Each weekly session accommodates a maximum of 20 campers.

Schedule

Monday–Friday | 8am–4pm

Drop-off and pick-up take place outside PWF’s Discovery Center Classrooms located in Maui Harbor Shops at Ma’alaea Harbor.

Pricing

$550/week

Price includes instruction and activities, daily field trips with local partners, including private snorkel trips on PacWhale Eco-Adventures vessels.

Session Information

June 9-13 | Mauka to Makai

Hawaiʻi is a place like no other on the planet. With endemic species found nowhere else, amazing natural ecosystems and deep cultural roots, there is so much to learn about the Hawaiian Islands. This week of Ocean Camp, campers will dive into the concept of “Mauka to Makai,” the connection between the mountains and the ocean. Through native plant restoration, snorkeling on the reefs and lessons about Hawaiian history, campers will learn how to protect our beautiful islands’ ʻāina.

June 16-20 | Fins and Flukes

Whale hello there! Are you familiar with the marine mammals who live in Maui waters? Get ready to dive into the fascinating world of marine mammals—like spinner dolphins, humpback whales, Hawaiian monk seals, and even far away marine mammals like manatees. We’ll explore how these animals breathe, communicate, and care for their young, while learning what we can do to protect them. With ocean-themed games, science experiments, and fin-tastic crafts, it’s a splashy adventure from start to finish!

July 7-11 | Elasmo-mania

Dive into the deep blue as we explore the world of elasmobranchs (better known as sharks and rays)! Over this week of Ocean Camp, campers will uncover the truth about these misunderstood ocean predators, learn about their incredible adaptations, and investigate how they help keep our oceans healthy. Through cultural stories, ocean-themed crafts, and jaw-some games, we will explore the amazing lives of sharks and rays.

July 14-18 | Polar Plunge

Take a plunge into the frigid waters of the polar extremes! This week of Ocean Camp will explore animals who live life on the edge in the coolest of places on our planet. Through in-classroom and field exploration, campers will investigate the adaptations that making it possible to live in the extreme environments of the poles. With hands-on crafts, snowy games, and frosty fun, this week of Ocean Camp packed with adventure at the top and bottom of the world!
