Biography:

Shelby Serra joined Pacific Whale Foundation in the Summer of 2018 as an educator and naturalist both in the Maui and Australia operations before transitioning to conservation work full-time in the Fall of 2019. She obtained her B.S. in Environmental Studies in 2014 from the University of Oregon and has focused on marine science education ever since. Shelby’s passion stems from her interest in the delicate interwoven ocean ecosystem and the human impacts that are affecting those systems. She is responsible for coordinating policy advocacy efforts, assisting the Research program in scientific comments and testimonies, environmental outreach and conservation messaging for the organization, and managing community marine debris research.

Shelby is a member of the RISE UP Blue Call to Action Coalition and is an active contributing member to NOAA’s Hawaii Marine Debris Action Plan.
