NO FULL-FACE SNORKEL MASKS

On all PacWhale snorkel adventures, we provide safe, vetted snorkel equipment for your enjoyment, but we also allow you to bring your own gear that you may be more comfortable with. For your safety, PacWhale Eco-Adventures does not allow the use of full-face snorkel masks. When we breathe, we produce carbon dioxide. Water activity typically requires more oxygen, sometimes making breathing shallow and fast. When this happens in a space like those provided by full-face snorkel masks, it may be difficult for some to completely push out all the used air, potentially causing a build-up of carbon dioxide.

This may lead to dizziness, headache, and worse-case scenario – unconsciousness. This can also occur in a few standard-seeming snorkeling tubes that have poor design. If you choose to bring your own equipment instead of using the PacWhale high-quality equipment that is included in your ecotour adventure, please make sure you have proper snorkeling equipment. Mahalo and happy ocean exploration!

Please consider donating to our foundation so we can continue to employ Maui residents and conduct vital Research, Education and Conservation programs to protect the ocean and its inhabitants.
