For over 40 years, Pacific Whale Foundation has been a leader in science, education and advocacy to protect whales and dolphins. Our Conservation program develops and advocates for science-based solutions to major stressors on whales and dolphins that align environmental, economic and community values. Using cutting edge data from our Research program, our team creates public policy agendas and mobilizes community members to support ocean protection efforts. Our priority issues include addressing the challenge of single-use plastic pollution, promoting best practices for whale watching tourism, raising awareness about rising ocean temperatures due to climate change and reducing the accidental catch of whales and dolphins by commercial fishing operations.
As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a passionate and strategic Conservation Manager to build and lead our policy advocacy work in Hawai’i and internationally.
The Conservation Manager is an exciting new role, reporting to the Deputy Executive Director. This position is responsible for leading the Conservation program in developing policy strategies to protect whales and dolphins at the state, federal and international level. The Conservation Manager manages a small team and works collaboratively with department and program managers across the organization, and represents PWF in the community, with policymakers, and with our donors, supporters and partners.

Our ideal candidate has at least five years of experience leading, developing and managing conservation programs or large-scale conservation projects, is an experienced people manager who leads with support, transparency and collaboration, and is a strong, effective public speaker.

We have an immediate opening for an experienced Maintenance Engineer. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for overseeing and performing ongoing maintenance on our EcoTour fleet of vessels and related equipment. The Maintenance Engineer works to ensure that all vessels are ready for operation, minimizing unanticipated down time. This position will also perform work during dry docks – both locally and on other islands.
Our ideal candidate is a team player with the ability to troubleshoot, accurately diagnose and repair all types of marine engines, and has experience instructing/overseeing the work of others. Excellent communication skills are a must. Knowledge of USCG policies and maritime regulations for Subchapter T certified passenger vessels and a passion for protecting our marine environment will set you apart!

We’re looking for experienced marine Naturalists for our summer season (May – Oct).
As a Naturalist with PacWhale EcoAdventures, you’ll be responsible for assisting in the safe navigation and proper operations of the vessel, ensuring a safe environment for all passengers, and educating passengers aboard our eco-tours on Hawai’i’s geology, geography, natural history, ecology, culture and all aspects of marine life. You’ll work a variety of eco-tours out of either Ma’alaea or Lahaina harbor, promoting the mission of our non-profit parent organization, Pacific Whale Foundation. We provide a great training program and free uniforms, along with medical and dental insurance after 4 weeks and some amazing employee perks.

We’re currently hiring Pursers for our summer season (May – Oct). Pursers report to both the Captain and the Vessel Staff Supervisor and are responsible for passenger safety, food and beverage service, supplies, money handling and bank reconciliation, and fulfilling deckhand duties. Our ideal candidates have experience with food and beverage service (on a boat is a plus!), lifeguard experience, are great with people and never hesitate to pitch in and help out.
