Free Talk: "Hawaii's Aquarium Trade"

09/29/2011 - 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Pacific Whale Foundation's Discovery Center, Ma'alaea (Maui), Hawaii

Did you know that 98% of all saltwater aquarium animals are wild caught -- and that over 30 million fish are plucked from coral reefs worldwide each year for the aquarium trade?  Pacific Whale Foundation's bimonthly Making Waves Lecture Series presents a free talk and slide show by Rene Umberger, an activist who has been diligently working to end aquarium trade collecting in Hawaii. A scuba instructor and dive guide, Rene Umberger has logged over 10,000 dives on Maui since 1983. The talk takes place from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Pacific Whale Foundation's Discovery Center downstairs at the Ma'alaea Harbor Shops (next door to Maui Ocean Center). The talk is free and open to all. (Please note that this month's talk takes place on the 5th Thursday of September, rather than the customary 3rd Thursday; the Making Waves Lecture Series is now presented bimonthly.)
