Maui County Tobacco-Free Beaches and Parks

On April 22, 2014, Maui County adopted Bill 24 and officially declared all county parks and beaches tobacco-free!

Cigarette butts account for an astonishing amount of waste, with 4.5 trillion butts estimated to be littered around the world every year. They are the number one item littered on beaches, and pose a threat to marine wildlife, ocean users and beachgoers.

Pacific Whale Foundation has been working to raise awareness about cigarette butt litter and to take steps to eliminate cigarette butts from polluting our beaches for nearly a decade. From providing education and outreach, free cigarette butt caddies and even conducting a study on the prevalence of butts on Maui beaches, we are working towards creating a cleaner and healthier ocean.
