With multiple reports of humpback whale sightings off Maui in recent weeks, the nonprofit Pacific Whale Foundation is looking ahead to a busy whale season, which includes hosting the annual Maui Whale Festival.

The excitement builds during the month of November at Pacific Whale Foundation, as whale sightings occur with greater frequency, leading up to the annual Welcome Home the Whales Celebration Cruises held by Pacific Whale Foundation on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. During these cruises, guests travel with Pacific Whale Foundation's researchers and naturalists, to watch whales and herald their return. Sightings of whales are guaranteed.

Pacific Whale Foundation's vessel Ocean Voyager reported a sighting of a humpback whale at exactly 9 am on Monday, October 15, 2012 about 4 miles outside Ma'alaea Harbor. It is believed to be the first reported sighting of a humpback whale off Maui this season.

Ocean Voyager was enroute to Molokini when the naturalists and captain saw a single whale. They observed the whale blow twice. The whale then did a fluke-up dive.
