One of Maui’s biggest and best-attended festivals, Whale Day takes place on Sat., Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kalama Park in Kihei.

Astounding whale movies and unforgettable slideshows will be part of the presentations by renowned whale photographers, researchers and others, during "An Evening With the Experts" on Saturday, February 12. The presentation is from 5:30 – 8:30 pm at the Westin Maui Resort and Spa, Kaanapali, and is free and open to the public, however advance reservations are recommended.

Over 700 people participated in the Run For The Whales, held on Saturday, February 5, as the first event of the Maui Whale Festival. Congratulations to all those who participated, finished and made the day great!

Artists and the Public Invited to Participate in Tribute to the Whales

This Saturday is Run For the Whales, one of Maui's best-attended 5K and half marathon runs, attracting more than 700 runners in 2010. Participants will receive a free race t-shirt, a free post-race breakfast and free electronic timing. Run For the Whales starts at the Makena Beach & Golf Resort and travels through the resort area of Makena and Wailea. Parts of the course are oceanside, in areas where runners might catch a glimpse of whales breaching in the water. Entry fees benefit marine education programs for Maui schoolchildren.

Crafters, environmental organizations and restaurant owners are invited to apply for booths at Pacific Whale Foundation's upcoming Whale Day Celebration, which will be held on Saturday, February 19 at Kalama Park in Kihei from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is also a need for volunteers to help with all aspects of the Whale Day. The day will feature live entertainment by Cecilio & Kapono, John Cruz, George Kahumoku Jr., Gail Swanson, Anuhea, The Throwdowns and Marty Dread. The public is invited and admission is free.

To honor the presence of the humpback whales in Maui during the winter, Pacific Whale Foundation hosts its annual Maui Whale Festival from November – May. February is the peak of whale season and to celebrate, Pacific Whale Foundation is offering many fun, free events for the public to attend and participate in.
