Advocacy in Action: Issues Tackled by Pacific Whale Foundation
• Helping to establish a ban on the display of captive whales and dolphins in Maui County
• Preventing the U.S. Navy from conducting LFA Sonar Testing in Hawaii
• Halting the operation of a high-speed, ultra-large “superferry” in Hawaii’s whale calving areas
• Testifying in favor of a Maui County law which bans plastic grocery bags at supermarkets and large retail stores (starting on 1/11/11)
• Derailing a proposal to legitimize commercial whaling at the International Whaling Commission
• Removing thousands of pounds of marine debris from Maui’s beaches through our Volunteering on Vacation program and staff participation in the Adopt-a-Highway program
• Promoting sustainable seafood choices to hundreds of thousands of Maui visitors through our partnership with Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program
