The Visit of a Colleague

This week we were visited by Koen Van Waarabeek. I admire a lot of work Koen scientist, biologist when I was trained for my thesis about whales, read a lot about him and his work in Peru. Now that I'm his colleague I am proud of your visit. We enjoy great conversations and had the opportunity to exchange photos and identifying stranding some animals. Say you take every experience.

Of course we went out to see whales, we found a wonderful competition group with 6 animals. Their active and aggressive behaviors kept us excited all the time. Koen said that this place is a special place for whales and it is true, Ecuador has breeding sites and unique mating whales, plus the warmth of the people and the local cuisine is a great plus.

Honestly, I do not work, I devote myself to research and conserve whales, but really this is not working, having the opportunity to see whales every day is a great chance at life. I think Koen, think the same thing, to study, learn from them and save them, that are not working, just enjoy and sense the life.

Esta semana  tuvimos la visita de Koen Van Waarabeek. Admiro mucho el trabajo científico de Koen, cuando me formé para bióloga y hacia mi tesis en ballenas, leía mucho sobre él y sus trabajos en Perú. Ahora que soy su colega me siento orgullosa de su visita. Disfrutamos de grandes conversaciones y tuve la oportunidad de intercambiar fotos de varamientos e identificar algunos animales. Digamos que aproveche toda su experiencia.

Por supuesto salimos  a ver ballenas, encontramos un magnifico grupo de competencia con 6 animales. Sus comportamientos activos y agresivos nos mantuvieron todo el tiempo emocionados. Koen comento que teníamos un sitio extraordinario para ballenas y es verdad, Ecuador tiene sitios de reproducción y apareamiento de ballenas únicos, además que la calidez de la gente y la gastronomía local es un plus ideal.

La verdad, lo que hago no es trabajar, me dedico a investigar y conservar las ballenas, pero realmente esto no es trabajo, el tener la oportunidad de ver ballenas todos los días, es una gran oportunidad de vida. Creo Koen, piensa lo mismo, el poder estudiar, conocer más de ellas y salvarlas, eso no es trabajar, solo disfrutar la vida.
