Making the Scene
The Maui News
After two weeks traipsing through exotic, faraway worlds, I knew I was back on Maui when a baby whale breached off the side of the boat as Marty Dread sang, “It’s gonna be a bright, bright sunshiny day.”
The sun was sinking into the sea in the vicinity of Lahaina. Assorted baby whales and their mothers played lazily in the water as Marty did his weekly gig on behalf of Pacific Whale Foundation. His sunset cruises during whale season (www.pacificwhale.org/ content/island rhythmsstarlight-cruise-marty-dread 2) are one of those things that make me glad to get visitors from the Mainland each year

The Maui News
What a great feeling it was one day recently to pull out of Lahaina Harbor on Ocean Discovery, the Pacific Whale Foundation catamaran, leaving cares behind on a whale watch. Everyone was happy as we passed through the narrow channel, perilously close to the reef, in search of our great annual cetacean visitors...
Meeting Ecuador's largest tourists
July 5, 2011
The Miami Herald
Josefina came to Ecuador in 2002. She returned in 2004 and over the course of a month toured the central coast of Ecuador in Machalilla National Park and visited Salinas. She came back again in 2005. Though we can say Josefina probably likes Ecuador, she is not your typical tourist. She is one of the thousands of humpback whales that arrive in the waters of Ecuador every year between June and September - part of a yearly migration to mate and give birth in warm equatorial waters.
Josefina, along with other whales like Clarita, Clementina, and Tres Rayos (Three Stripes) are all part of the national register of the Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF)...(http://www.hoy.com.ec/noticias-ecuador/meeting-ecuadors-largest-tourists...)

Cruise Critic
We first saw her "blow" -- the misty vapor plume that results when a whale exhales at the surface. Then we saw her body -- a massive pewter wall rising slowly above the surface of the sea on the starboard side of the boat. The captain killed the engines; by law, we couldn't approach within 100 yards of her…

It's late November, the whales are back, and Maui's got 'em!
