Pacific Whale Foundation Announces Action-Packed Welcome Home the Whales Celebration Weekend

Pacific Whale Foundation members and supporters are invited to join Pacific Whale Foundation to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a weekend of family-friendly events November 26-28.  Activities include a special sustainable seafood dinner cruise, Welcome Home the Whales celebration cruises, an open house and a golf tournament among others.

“We are so excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pacific Whale Foundation,” says Greg Kaufman, Founder and Chief Scientist at Pacific Whale Foundation. “It is because of the support from our members and the community that we are able to continue our mission to promote appreciation, understanding and protection of whales, dolphins, coral reefs and our planet's oceans. We want to use this weekend as a way to say thank you.”

The events begin on Friday, November 26 and go through Sunday, November 28. The calendar of events is as follows:

Friday, November 26, 2010
Sustainable Seafood Dinner Cruise


The Sustainable Seafood Dinner Cruise will include live entertainment and a four-course dinner with locally-sourced, sustainably-caught seafood featuring organic produce from O'o Farm. The menu includes O'o Farm mixed greens, Mahi ceviche, local avocados, Kula onions, Olowalu cherry tomatoes, in a Calamansi Vinaigrette, locally troll caught Mahi Mahi served on a bed or roasted seasonal root vegetables with a classic fume, Molokai potatoes infused with ginger and coconut milk, and fresh Kula strawberries and rich Poi whipped into Cheesecake, layered between moist Maui chocolate cake with a tart tropical fruit sauce. Cruise departs at 5:30 pm from Lahaina Harbor. Price is  $88.68; $71.55 for Members; $45.83 for children ages 2 -12 (prices include tax). Reservations required.

Welcome Home the Whales Celebration Cruises

Celebrate the annual return of Maui’s migratory humpback whales with this special cruise. Lahaina departures take place at 6:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Ma'alaea departures are at 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sightings are guaranteed. Price is $24.95 for adults; $19.96 for members; $17.95 for children ages 7 to 12; children ages 6 and under go free (one free child per paying adult). Reservations required.

A special Welcome Home the Whales Cruise for Pacific Whale Foundation members and their guests departs Ma'alaea Harbor at 10:30 a.m. The cruise will be lead by members of the Pacific Whale Foundation's research team. Reservations required.



Pacific Whale Foundation Open House and Ocean Store Sale

From 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the public is invited to tour Pacific Whale Foundation's headquarters overlooking Ma'alaea Bay, in the Harbor Shops at Ma'alaea next to Maui Ocean Center. See the many eco-friendly features of Pacific Whale Foundation's green offices, visit the research lab and Ocean Discovery Center, and meet Pacific Whale Foundation's education and research teams, along with other staff. This event is free. 

Also, Pacific Whale Foundation Members will receive a 30% discount on all hats, T-shirts, tote bags and water bottles at the Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Stores in Ma'alaea and Lahaina all day.

Golf Fore The Whales – Golf Tournament and Family Fun Day

The whale-themed golf tournament and family fun day benefits scholarship funds for underprivileged Maui schoolchildren to participate in whalewatch field trips this winter. The tournament takes place at the beautiful and scenic Makena Beach and Golf Resort's North Course. The four-person scramble begins at 7:00 a.m. A complimentary Awards Luncheon with no-host bar will begin at 11:30 a.m. immediately following tournament play. There are prizes for top teams in three divisions (men, women and co-ed), plus a hole-in-one contest. Family members are invited to join in the free whale-themed activities during the tournament. Tournament fee is $120.00 per player. Pacific Whale Foundation Members fee is $100.00. Reservations required.

30th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon
This special 30th anniversary luncheon at the Makena Ballroom at the Makena Beach and Golf Resort will feature a special commemorative anniversary talk and slideshow by Greg Kaufman. The price is $40.00 per person plus tax. Children 12 years and younger are $25.58 plus tax. Reservations required.
