 In honor of Earth Day, Pacific Whale Foundation will be hosting a free workshop on "Sustainable Living in Changing Times" on Thursday, April 18 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Pacific Whale Foundation's Discovery Center in Ma'alaea. The public is invited. Kyle Blickley, Project Manager at HNU Energy, will be discussing cost effective ways to incorporate new technologies into your home and business. Kelly King, Vice President and Director of Communications for Pacific Biodiesel Technologies will be speaking on "Here and Now! Sustainable Biodiesel in Hawaii. Jenna Leilani Tallman will present easy ways to compost at home in small spaces, composting even animal products, using Bokashi, a clean, high-speed composting method first developed in Japan. Chef Joe Birrer of Porto, the Mediterranean grill and flame-fired artisan pizza restaurant operated by Pacific Whale Foundation in Ma'alaea, will be on hand to discuss the restaurant industry’s relationship to “going local” and provide recipes that source locally produced herbs and vegetables. Pacific Whale Foundation's education team will also supply materials for mixing your own eco-friendly home cleaning products during the workshop, and will give away tomato and herb starts for planting in your yard or in pots on your lana'i or windowsill.
