A signature event of the Maui Whale Festival, and one of Maui's most popular events, the 34th Annual World Whale Day is a free, all-day celebration that honors the humpback whales that come to Maui each winter. Hosted by the nonprofit Pacific Whale Foundation, World Whale Day begins at 9 am with Maui's Parade of Whales (see separate listing), followed by live entertainment on the main stage by top Hawai’i recording stars including a special guest appearance by legendary rock icon Mick Fleetwood, co-founder and drummer of Fleetwood Mac. Other entertainers include George Kahumoku, Jr., John Cruz, Anuhea, Na Hoa, Dr. Nat and Rio Ritmo, Ekolu, R.E. Meyoyer Blues Rock and Soul Revue and Marty Dread. The day also features great food by Maui restaurants, a children's carnival, a huge "Made on Maui" artisans fair, environmental displays and more. The festivities at World Whale Day start at 10 am and end at 7:00 pm at Kalama Park in Kihei (across from Foodland on South Kihei Road). Last year, more than 25,000 Maui residents and visitors attended. To learn more, visit www.mauiwhalefestival.org or call Pacific Whale Foundation at (808) 249-8811 ext. 1. Sponsored by County of Maui Office of Parks and Recreation, Hawaii Tourism Authority, County of Maui Office of Economic Development, First Wind and Menehune Water. Part of the Maui Whale Festival.
